Avatars are gravatars...
http://www.gravatar.com hosts them based on your email address and they show up in this forum (and apparently many many others). If you want your picture in the forum and the blog, set up your gravatar, it will take longer to read this post than to do that and you can easily switch between the ones you upload. If you don't add one the default is a Gator...which should incent you to set up your gravatar!

Pictures...
may be posted as well, using html src code. This code can be copied right from photobucket for example, in the box that says "HTML code" by a picture.

Media...
I have extended the forum to allow support for all sorts of media with the "Anarchy Media Player" Java script. It plays mp3, flv, mov, mp4, m4v, m4a, m4b, 3gp, avi, asf and wmv files. It will replace your link automatically with a java player, hiding the link, and look like this for an mp3:

YouTube videos...
You can now just put the url link and it will automatically be turned into a video!

MySpace videos...
can be embedded, but only by Moderators. And they get little funky codes around them if you post the "embed" code from YouTube, but it will work. If you go back and edit a post with a YouTube vid in it, it will break the video due to some funky code parsing the board does.
If you want to embed a YouTube video in your post and have it look normal (and the post editable), delete the code from the beginning through the "< / param >" so it starts with "< embed >" and delete the "< / embed > < / object >" from the end.

How to embed Google Videos:
Copy the embed code from Google. Paste into a thread. Delete the "< / embed >" off the end.
Done!

Feeds...
One cool thing this DOES support is RSS feeds. Today I set up little blocks in "my yahoo" and igoogle" that let me see the latest posts of each without actually coming to the forum to check.

Private Messages...
You now have the ability to PM members of the board. To PM somebody click "PM THIS USER" at the bottom left of their post.
If you have a new PM, a big "You have 1 new message" will appear at the top of the front page. If you have no messages, nothing will pop up. If you need to get at old messages or create a new PM, there's a "Private Messages" link at the bottom left of the front page (bottom of the page for mobile users).
PM's do not trigger emails, maybe at some point I'll work on that if we think it's needed.

Optimized Viewing on an iPhone, Blackberry, etc.
I have added mobile support for the forum. It should give a simpler view to those of you with things like Blackberry or Windows Mobile.
Also for the better smartphones, there is now a Mobile-optimized theme available. Scroll down to the bottom of any forum window, and in the "Theme Switcher" menu select "bbPress Forum" from your mobile device.
This choice is device dependent, so you can have the full version on your computer and the mobile version on your phone.
