I have 2 models I would like to build, nothing is really final but I have 2 mockups of what I would them to look like. One a white shredder with a trem, the other a natural with a stop tail. I really like the Charvel type look, but they are hard to come by in Canada....and lack a few subtle options I would like to have. I am gonna see about getting them built by Frakinstein Guitarworks.....or maybe even ordering the stuff myself and just having the wiring done through them......dunno really.

The white one would be my first build, to replace the Ibanez. I am thinking basswood body, maple neck....one volume and a 5 way toggle. Thoughts suggestions?

A guitar is such a personal thing, so any opinions you get here will be worth exactly what you paid for them

One thing I could suggest that would make either of those guitars cooler is having the body sculpted - specifically, like the Ibanez S series. The S series is ridiculously comfortable to play - thin around the top and bottom for comfort, thick around the pups for tone. Unfortunately they don't make an S series without a fricking whang bar, that's the only reason I don't own one. Anyway, that's my take on it. I looked at that usacustomguitars.com site and I see they have a carve top S body.

I like the single volume and 5-way switch. How often do any of us use the tone knobs on a guitar anyway?

And why not go for a 24-fret neck? Even if you never get up that high, having those 2 extra frets makes playing in the entire upper register more comfortable, which is important if the guitar has a bolt-on neck and a Strat-esque "block" heel.

I am kinda going back retro to my early pre Ibanez days.....I dunno 22 frets was what I had on my first guitars.....hard to say. I could design a million of these things.....I am shopping pre-fab stuff....but I doubt I would have the patience to see it through. If I pay someone to do it it might actually get done.......lol

Mn it sucks living in Canada.......no Charvel dealers...none that stock anything strictly on an order basis only....and that S770PB is so new nobody has it yet....and the store near me say they do not plan to stock it either.....AAAAARGH.

I was gonna ask you about that......I did remember talking about the kits before. I like the looks of the GK1P set, and would maybe swap out the pups and stain the body to a natural finish.

Funny thing is for the cost of a kit, you can get some really nice guitars already assembled. i was shopping around Warmouth and other sites and can see now how razor thin the profit margins must be for most manufacturers, and why everything is made in China......lol

My wife said I could buy, as long as I do not sell anything in the process. She even has encouraged me in the past to get that custom guitar built....she is great isn't she?!? My problem is always whether I can find the stuff I like to play in person before I buy. Prestige models are never anywhere to be found....no Charvels.....but a crap load of lower line RGs.....lol

I would love to build, but could buy 2 production models for that cost....so I am torn. I have money to burn and no idea where to take it.....so I guess I will just have to cool my jets, but it is hard. And yes Potter I agree, the S series are great guitars, I may have to take a harder look at one of those. I want something new that is all I know....lol
